UPSE CSE stands for Civil Services Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission.

UPSC CSE Exam is held every year by Union Public Service Commission and the process starts with the exam notification in February and there after, registration process starts. A Candidate has to go through the following stages and only upon successful qualification in one stage, he / she gets the chance to appear to the subsequent stages. However, if a candidates fails to qualify any stage, he /she then have to appear for the next year exam and that too from stage 1, unlike the ICAI's CA examinations. 

Various Stages of UPSC CSE are as follows:

1. Preliminary Stage or Prelims: 

    • It Consist of 2 Exams. First being General Studies i.e. Paper I and Second is a Qualifying in nature and test candidates General Aptitude i.e. Paper II.
    • GS Paper I  test the candidates General awareness and consist of 100 MCQs to be done in 2 hours time interval.  Paper II consist of 80 MCQs with 2 hour time interval and is qualifying in nature . 
    • A candidate securing a cutoff decided by UPSC, in Paper I qualifies for next stage only when he/she also score more than 33%  in Paper II. Therefore, a candidate has to Qualify both the exams of prelims to be eligible to appear in Stage 2.
    • There is a provision of negative marking in both the exam.
2. Mains Examination

  • It consist of various Subjective Tests.
    • Essay
    • Language Test
    • English Language Test
    • GS Paper I
    • GS Paper II
    • GS Paper III
    • GS Paper IV
    • Optional Subject Paper I
    • Optional Subject Paper II

3. Interview

The journey of preparation is usually linked with various ups and downs as we would see in our lives. But remember that, despite knowing the risk, you carried forward because you know what opportunity it holds!
